The Pawnshop

Everything has a price. Charlie’s help might cost you extra.

Working as a pawnbroker’s assistant, Charlie turns everyday tasks into an endless stream of mishaps. He quarrels with a fellow employee, creates chaos behind the counter and gives one customer’s alarm clock a hilariously thorough examination. When a crook enters the shop, the day becomes even more eventful.

Starring Charlie Chaplin, Edna Purviance and Henry Bergman, this inventive silent comedy transforms ordinary objects into comic props, delivering playful slapstick and some of Chaplin’s most memorable visual gags.
