Fakin’ Da Funk

A new neighbourhood. Plenty of assumptions. One chance to be yourself.

Raised by a Black family in Atlanta, Chinese American teenager Julian Lee moves to South Central Los Angeles with his mother and brother. As he tries to make friends, his new neighbours struggle to look beyond appearances and accept him for who he is.

Meanwhile, Chinese exchange student May-Ling finds herself staying with a Black family in the same neighbourhood, facing some unexpected adjustments of her own.

Starring Dante Basco, Pam Grier, Ernie Hudson and Margaret Cho, Fakin’ Da Funk mixes culture-clash comedy with a story about family, friendship and finding where you belong.
